Calvin Klein no doubt put in some work to make it happen and despite the ups and downs, Calvin Klein has survived. Throughout the controversial storms of the 1980's when Richard Avedon photographed and directed the Calvin Klein Jeans campaign, featuring the young and beautiful 15 year old Brooke Shields. Whether or not it was kiddy porn is something I really couldn't tell you. But what I can tell you is that Brooke Shields made every young girl want for a pair of Calvin Klein Jeans. To get our behinds in a pair of Calvin Klein's we sometimes had to incorporate the 3 B's. It was either buy, beg or borrow. They were a bit pricey for some of our parents standards. So if our parents didn't buy them for us, we were begging them to buy us a pair of Calvin Klein Jeans and until then hopefully you and your best friend wore the same size in which you could borrow hers.
Recently Calvin Klein launched an underwear ad campaign with model Lara Stone and entertainer Justin Bieber, with a MyCalvins hashtag and a " show me yours" challenge from Lara Stone, which I shared on my Salon Exotica Via L.S. Facebook page. When I saw that I had gotten over 1,000 views on that post I decided that I was going to show mine. So off to the nearest Macy's store I went. Surely Macy's would have the new line of Calvin Klein underwear.
After looking and looking and looking and not finding, I asked the sales clerk where they would be but guess what? They didn't sell them at that Macy's store. I was told that another Macy's store might carry them but that store was almost an hour away. I was also told that they could put in an order for me online. Whatttt?????? That wasn't good enough for me. I asked her why they didn't sell them there. She started talking about based on demographics and blah blah blah. The only thing that I got out of that conversation was that Macy's felt that the if you live in a certain area, you can't wear Calvin Klein underwear or won't wear Calvin Klein underwear. So I marched down to the other end of the mall to the Burlington Coat Factory. They didn't sell the My Calvins either. The sales clerk did though suggest I look in the Men's Department where I found some Calvin Klein underwear and t-shirts on clearance. Not what I wanted but just like Calvin Klein, I was going to make it happen, besides, it wouldn't have been the first time a woman modeled a pair of Calvin Klein underwear. And then yes. I made it happen. I took a couple of photos in the t-shirt and underwear along with a Calvin Klein comforter that I already had.
Now let's talk about the 150,000 dollar pearl Oscar dress by Calvin Klein that Lupita wore. A dress laced with 6,000 natural white pearls, stolen from the London Hotel, returned a few days later after an anonymous phone call to TMZ claiming that the pearls were fake. The case of who did it. But then who's to say that the dress that was returned is really the dress.
Love you Calvin Klein.
